Good Drugstore Makeup Brands
Posted by Jenna Kirby on
Nowadays even the cheap drugstore makeup brands are good and have raised their quality of products due to increasing pressure of being compared to luxury cosmetic brands. The popularity of stores like Sephora and Ulta, and also the growing number of glam fab social media posts with these luxury brands have made it mainstream for people to spend $25 on a lipstick without a blink of an eye when it was considered a splurge to do so previously. To compete with luxury brands, the common drugstore brands have stepped up their game with more longer-staying power, more pigmented, smoother, and creamier cosmetic formulas.
The drugstore brands listed below are budget-friendly and each has a reputation for leading in certain makeup product lines. These are the recommended brands for great quality cosmetics that won’t cost you a fortune.
NYX
Well known for lip products in modern colors. High color payoff, creamy texture and long-lasting color. Their hit products are the Butter Lip Gloss and Soft Matte Lip Creams. They are weak with their eye and face products, admittedly, and working on improving those lines.
Eyes $4-10
Lips $4-9
Face $8-12
L’oreal
This brand has been around since 1953 and is still going strong. For the under $12 price point, they lead in best mascaras, eyeliners, and brow liners. Their face makeup is of great quality with cool, warm and neutral toned colors that are labeled accordingly for easy skin color matching.
Eyes $6-12*
Lips $6-12*
Face $9-16*
Maybelline
A sister brand to L’oreal with a slightly lower price point. Their entire product line is pretty solid all-around for eye, lip, and face makeup. Their nail polishes, however, are not recommended.
Eyes $4-12*
Lips $4-9*
Face $6-12*
e.l.f. Cosmetics
This company has only been around for 13 years yet it’s popularity exploded the past few years due to Social Media. One of their best-selling product is their Moonlight baked highlighter $4. With decent lipsticks and eyeliners starting at a $1, it’s the best value brand.
Eyes $1-6*
Lips $1-6*
Face $2-8*
Revlon
The oldest drugstore brand (since 1932!) has arguably held the title of best lipsticks throughout all these years and still holds that title. Their other products have consistently been really good quality with no exceptions.
Eyes $6-10*
Lips $6-10*
Face $8-14*
Other popular drugstore brands include Almay, Physician’s Formula, L.A. Girl, Milani, Wet & Wild, and Rimmel.
